Emperor Tashing Temur

Tashing Toghan Temur (Shun Di) lived from 1333 to 1370 CE. He was a pious ruler who retreated from political life and disliked the corruption in the Mongol court. In this lifetime, the Tai Situpa appeared to peacefully end a period of chaos in Chinese history.

Tashing Toghan Temur was the last Emperor of the Yuan dynasty of China. He was coronated as King by the 3rd Gyalwa Karmapa and was the Karmapa's faithful disciple. Through the Gyalwa Karmapa’s creation of a sacred nectar to prolong longevity, Emperor Tashing became the longest lived of all the Mongol rulers.

The 3rd Gyalwa Karmapa passed away in China. On the night of his passing, the Karmapa's form appeared on the face of the moon for all to see. The Emperor Tashing was also a renown miracle worker. In one historical incident, Virupa and numerous other mahasiddhas appeared in the Imperial Court, even though they had passed away hundreds of years ago.

During the Emperor's reign, an imperial decree officially honored the Ch’an master Pai Chang. Master Chang encouraged monastic discipline throughout China.

Due to the mismanagement of the country by previous Emperors coupled with the current famines and crop failures, the Yuan Empire was in a period of chaos.

The Emperor Tashing expelled many Mongol officials. These Mongol lords planned on carrying out a holocaust against ninety percent of the Chinese population. Therefore, the Emperor saved millions of lives. He later on voluntarily abdicated his right to the throne, even at the pleading of his ministers and family. The Emperor was an unselfish ruler who wished for sentient beings to benefit in the most suitable manner.

So, the Emperor left China and lived the rest of his life in Mongolia. The Mongol rulers and lords were often known for their brutality and barbaric wars. But due to the Emperor’s wisdom, compassion and omniscience, the Mongol dynasty ended without any bloodshed in China.
