Jan 7th--- The Kagyu Monlam has concluded, graced on its last day by the presence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje, His Eminence the 4th Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Kalu Yangsi Rinpoche, among many others. It was an honor for all those present for the supreme precious jewel of Tibet, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, to take part in the prayers on the last day of the Kagyu Monlam Chenmo.

The Kagyu Monlam concluded with a candles being lighted and the devotees circling the sacred stupa clockwise.

Kagyu Monlam begins

Dec 31st--- About 7,000 Buddhist monks, including 17 incarnate lamas, have congregated in Bodh Gaya for the Kagyu Monlam Chenmo. The Gyalwa Karmapa was scheduled to arrive on Sunday to lead the Monlam, but he will not be able to join in prayer until January 5th. The Kagyu monks will be praying for world peace. Buddhist from all across the world have gathered for the Kagyu Monlam. On January 7th, H. H the Dalai Lama is scheduled to arrive in Bodh Gaya in which the Kalachakra pujas and empowerment will begin later in January. <Hindustantimes

 

 

INFORMATION

The Pal Nyammay Kagyupay Sangha Monlam Chenmo is held each year under the guidance of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Drodul Trinley Dorje, and Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche.

The next Monlam will take place from 31 December 2003 to 8 January 2004 in Bodhgaya, India. Check back with us later in the year for the latest news about Monlam preparations.

The Dec 31st, 2002 to Jan 7th, 2003 Kagyu Monlam concluded. News of its event are above. Many Lamas such as the Gyalwa Karmapa, Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Kalu Yangsi Rinpoche, Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and Kyabje Bokar Rinpoche were present during the last days of the Monlam. His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the last day of the Monlam, joining the Gyalwa Karmapa and Kagyu practitioners in prayer. This year's Monlam was the 20th anniversay.

The 2001 Kagyu Monlam was one of the biggest gatherings for the Kagyu lineage. The Gyalwa Karmapa, Gyaltsab Rinpoche, Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Kalu Yangsi Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, Mingyur Dorje Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso, Bardor Rinpoche, Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, Badyod Rinpoche, and many other Lamas attended the event.

In 2001 at Sarnath, the Gyalwa Karmapa and Dalai Lama prayed together at the Damnek Stupa. After the Kagyu Monlam, a meeting of the Kagyu Lamas took place in Sarnath at Thrangu Rinpoche's Vajra Vidya Monastery. There, they all convened to discuss how to preserve Marpa's tradition and continue the unbroken lineage.

In 2001 His Holiness Karmapa gave a new title to the Kagyu Monlam. From now on it will be called, Pal Nyammay Kagyupay Sangha Monlam Chenmo (The Great Monlam Aspiration of the Glorious Unequaled Kagyu Sangha).
