His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso together with the nuns

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 due to the Communist occupation. As the incarnation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion Chenrezi, the Dalai Lama is both the supreme spiritual leader for Tibetan Buddhism and the public leader of the Tibetan people. In 1989, His Holiness was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the purest and brightest example for all of humanity.

The Gyalwa Karmapa is the supreme head of the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, and he is one of the four main Lamas of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa was born in 1985 in eastern Tibet. His birth was predicted by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rigpe Dorje in a sacred letter, and his recognition was confirmed by the the unfailing wisdom-eye of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa arrived in Dharamsala in 2000, after courageously fleeing Tibet upon his own will. The Karmapa fled Tibet in order to receive the transmissions of the Kagyu lineage from his teachers, most importantly His Eminence Tai Situ Rinpoche.

The Tai Situ Rinpoche is one of the main holders of the Kagyu lineage. Situ Drogon Rechen was none other than the regent of the 1st Gyalwa Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa, and therefore the Tai Situpa is the second main holder of the Karma Kagyu tradition. Tai Situ Rinpoche also incarnated as the founding father of the Kagyu lineage in Tibet, the translator Marpa.

The 12th Tai Situ Rinpoche was born in 1954 in eastern Tibet, recognized by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa was Situ Rinpoche's main teacher, who transmitted the Kagyu lineage in its entirety.

Presently residing at Sherab Ling Monastery, his seat in northern India, Situ Rinpoche has kindly provided guidance over the years for the Buddhist Nuns in Tilokpur.

Yongle Mingyur Dorje Rinpoche was recognized by the 16th Karmapa as the 7th incarnation of the Terton Mingyur Dorje, who revealed many important practices (especially for the Karma Kagyu tradition) in the 17th century as predicted by Guru Padmasambhava. H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche recognized him as the reincarnation of Kangyur Rinpoche.

Mingyur Rinpoche received instructions from both the Dzogchen and Mahamudra traditions, including from his father Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, the 16th Karmapa, Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, and Saljay Rinpoche.

After completing the three-year retreat at the age of seventeen, Mingyur Rinpoche was appointed retreat master of Sherab Ling Monastery. Mingyur Rinpoche was officially enthroned by His Eminence the 12th Tai Situpa and is one of the main representatives of His Eminence.
