The 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ugyen Trinley Dorje currently resides in India and his main teachers are Tai Situ Rinpoche and Thrangu Rinpoche.  He will soon be returning to Rumtek Monastery, the seat of his predecessor, and once again perform the ceremony of the Black Vajra Crown for the benefit of all beings.

Before the 17th Karmapa assumes the complete transmission of the Karma Kagyu lineage, the current supreme throne holder and head of the lineage is the 12th Tai Situ Rinpoche Pema Donyo Nyinje.  The 12th Tai Situpa currently resides in India.
